1. Best part of living in VA?
Vicki – I live in Lexington, Kentucky now, but my family and I spent 13 years in northern VA. By far, the best thing about living there was being surrounded by history. We made several trips to the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum, toured the Capitol and White House, and saw the monuments on the National Mall. I’ll never forget visiting the Vietnam wall twice in one year. On Memorial Day, it was lined with little American flags. Father’s Day was even more emotional. The bottom of the wall was lined with red and yellow roses to represent daughters and sons.
Charity – Oh my word! I agree about the history. It is so awesome!!! I live right by Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. Love, Love, Love it!
And, you have no idea how much I am in love with Lexington, KY too though!! Such a beautiful, beautiful city ❤ I have to drive through Kentucky to get to my Mother-in-law’s house and it’s my favorite state to drive through. It’s like you drive through the evil and dirty West Virginia into the beautiful, lusciously green state of Kentucky.

2. Have you ever seen the end of a rainbow?
Vicki – Oh, I wish! No pot of gold sightings, but I saw a double rainbow over I-40 when my family and I drove cross-country. We were at the Arizona-New Mexico border when a massive rainstorm hit. It was so bad that cars and trucks all pulled over. When the storm cleared, we saw a brilliant double rainbow arching over the highway. Awesome moment!
Charity – Oh, how beautiful!! Well, I have, in fact, driven through the end of a rainbow TWICE! No gold except the incredible thrill of doing it! haha 🙂 Of course, that’s something you can never prepare for and have a picture of. Shame.

3. Have you learned to enjoy the perks of living here? In other words, have you learned to love Iced Sweet Tea?
Vicki – Sorry, but I cringe even hearing the words! No sweet tea for me. I’m a coffee person all the way.

4. What is your favorite binge watching show?
Vicki – Downton Abbey tops the list for sure. I was late to this particular party, so when I finally caught Downton fever, the show was in season three and I was in the middle of writing Together With You. As soon as I sent off the ms, I watched the first three seasons in something like five days, then watched the fourth season the next weekend.
Charity – Oh my word! I was late too!! I am just now going through the Downton Abby seasons. I think I am on the 3rd.
I have to think though…My favorite binge show was probably Broadchurch. I really loved that one!

5. Have you ever spent a day trekking through the woods?
Vicki – Back in college I hiked with friends up to Vernal Falls in Yosemite National Park. We were only halfway back to the campground when the sun dropped below the mountains, so the last part of the hike was in total darkness. No flashlights. No moon until around ten o’clock. I’ve never been so glad to get back to a tent in my life. I’m not sure if this hike was worth it for the stunning waterfalls, or just plain stupid!
Charity – Oh wow! That is so scary!!!!!!! Yikes!
I’ve done some random hiking…but I’m a princess through and through. It’s a hotel for me. (hotel with an H, not an M).

6. Do you scrapbook (or any type of craft)?
Vicki – No. Not a thing. My biggest craft achievement was in third grade when I glued elbow macaroni to a cigar box, spray painted it gold, and gave it to my dad for Father’s Day. I have a lot of respect for people who scrapbook. It’s a storytelling, just with pictures and paper instead of words.
Charity – You don’t know how much I love you for saying that. I absolutely HATE scrapbooking. I am not sure if there is much I hate less that scrapbooking…

7. What does your dream vacation look like?
Vicki – The beach all the way! Lots of sun and sand. Turquoise water. Nothing to do except read, sleep and eat wonderful food. My husband and I spent our fifteenth anniversary in Puerto Vallarta. It was wonderful. I’d love to go back, or how about a month on a Caribbean Island?
Charity – Oh my word!! I can’t compete with that either!! It’s so beautiful!

8. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?
Vicki – The most direct answer is that I strive to bring glory to God in the books I write. But there’s more here than it might seem. My biggest lesson as a Christian has been to let go of my own abilities and to rely solely on God. I’m the person who pushes too hard, does too much and ends up exhausted from striving in her own strength. In fact, that’s what Someone Like You (Bethany House Publishers, May 2016) is about.
To combat my tendency to push in my own strength, I remind myself to take time to breathe and rest. I also read Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost For His Highest just about every morning. I’ve on my third read-through, and I find new insights every time.

9. Do your boys read your books?
Vicki – They both read Until I Found You and enjoyed it. It’s set in a fictionalized version of the mountain community where they grew up, so they had fun spotting similarities. They recognized several details, like the twisting road into the town of Meadows and the condor sightings. They also laughed out loud to a reference to the band Nirvana. Apparently I totally missed the boat, and I still don’t know why the reference doesn’t fit.
Charity – haha. Oh man! That’s funny! I bet it was pretty cool for them to read.

10. What song makes you stop everything and dance?
Vicki – Lots of them! Adele’s music is just plain addictive. I also like country. The Band Perry, Gary Allan and Eric Church are among my favorites. Each book has a soundtrack, but these artists are in constant rotation. I really do get up and dance, too. If I’m stuck on a story, moving around helps shake it loose.
Charity – Nice!! I love Taylor Swift!!! :O haha Her music makes me just want to “shake it off”!!
