Her Secret

by Shelley Shepard Gray

51MCVXh3I1L

Catching You Up: Amish farm girl, Hannah, is being stalked by an English boy that is in love with her. Her family must flee for her protection. With her siblings resenting her and her family going through another crisis, she must sort through her fears and learn to trust again.

My Thoughts: When I think of Amish, all I can think of is how “dark” the lifestyle is. I know it’s because I am a visual person and life without a lot of color is VERY SAD! One of the things I love about Shelley Shepard Gray is that she brings color out of their lifestyle. As strange as it sounds, reading her Amish fiction is the first time I can really connect with the characters.

This is a short and light read, but that does not take away from the content. Her characters are always well developed and complex. I am not usually surprised, but there was definitely some intrigue that got me! Well done, Shelley!!!

Need a great read for a flight? Something you can grab and go – pick up and put down without missing a beat? This is your story! I definitely recommend anything by this author. Make sure to pick up a copy! Link is in the pic above!!

The rules are simple. I ask Shelley some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. What’s your go-to hairstyle when you are in a rush?

Shelley – I pin my hair up. I have fairly long hair, it’s past my shoulders. I rarely wear it down because it’s so much trouble!

Charity – I usually throw it into a braid and then pin it up into a fancy looking bun that takes 12 seconds…

— Low maintenance!! (Everyone that knows me just snorted out loud when I said “low maintenance”. Guess I shouldn’t try to get that point.)

Charity 0 / Shelley 1

2. Could you live Amish for a month?

Shelley – Nope. I love writing about the Amish, but I also love my electricity, computer, cell phone, and Kindle.

Charity – Oh man. Me either!!!

— Tie

Charity 1 / Shelley 2

3. Have you ever been stung by a jellyfish?

Shelley – No, which is surprising, since I grew up going to Galveston a lot.

Charity – Wha??? I haven’t ever met someone that hasn’t been stung…that I know of! Outrageous!!

— I have!!!

Charity 2 / Shelley 2

4. Worst camping story?

Shelley – The only camping I’ve ever done was when I taught 5th and 6th grade. We were in cabins. I was with other teachers, not students, and we also had electricity, so we had fans, hair dryers, coffee pots, and curling irons. Hmm. I’m starting to think this means I haven’t actually ever been camping.

Charity – Oh man. We went camping over Memorial Day Weekend one year. There were ticks just falling out of the trees like rain. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!

I have the shivers just thinking about it!!!

— You didn’t have a bad one! haha 🙂

Charity 3/ Shelley 2

5. A fun story about you and your spouse?

Shelley – We met in our dorm’s cafeteria when we both got sent to summer school before our freshmen year in college. I fell in love at first sight. Tom? Not so much. We’ve been together since, and that was over 30 years ago.

Charity – Ha!! My hubby took some time too. What’s wrong with these men!?????

— Tie

Charity 4 / Shelley 3

6. Who was your favorite Looney Tunes character? Who was your least favorite?

Shelley – Tweety Bird was my favorite. I don’t know if I have a least favorite! Maybe Road Runner? I’ve always kind of been stickler for following the rules. Ha!

Charity – Nice 🙂 I don’t know who I liked the most! I know that I hated Bugs Bunny!! Oh, he’s so mean!!!!!

— Shelley had hers ready!!

Charity 4 / Shelley 4

7. Best cereal you ate as a child?

Shelley – Peanut Butter Captain Crunch. I also was (and still am) a hug fan of Poptarts. Obviously, I never really embraced that whole healthy breakfast thing.

Charity – Soooo awesome! That was my favorite too!!! Now, it is so nasty. It leaves this gross film in my mouth. *shudder*

— Tie

Charity 5 / Shelley 5

8. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

Shelley – I write about people in different stages of their faith journey. I like to imagine that I show that anyone, at anytime in his or her life, can have a true relationship with God.

Charity – Thank God!! I came to Him later in life…whew!! What a trainwreck I was!!!

— God wins!!

Charity 5 / Shelley 5

9. Ever been on a cruise? How was it? Seasick?

Shelley – I think I’ve been on 15 cruises. I love cruising, love to travel. And nope, I never get sea sick.

Charity – 15 CRUISES!!! 😮

I can’t imagine. I would love to go on ONE!!

— Shelley definitely gets that one!

Charity 5 / Shelley 6

10. Who is your favorite rat pack member?

Shelley – Dean Martin! Love him! sigh.

Charity – Oh man…He is something…but, FRANK?? What about Frank???

— FRANK WINS!

Face-Off with Olivia Newport!!

images I am so excited to be facing-off with Olivia Newport today!!! I love my job! Woot Woot!!

Ever since I started reading Christian Fiction, about 4 years back, I have been drawn to Olivia’s books as I’m perusing the shelves. Her Avenue of Dreams series always catches my eye. I finally picked up one of them and can’t wait to let you know my thoughts!!!

A small sampling as she is author of almost 20 books! Olivia has two grown children and lives a peaceful life, with her husband of over 30 years, in Colorado. She writes a lot of Amish Fiction and some Historical too.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

PicCollageThe rules are simple. I ask Olivia some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. Have you ever been stuck in the middle of an epic storm? Like a Category 5 Hurricane?

Olivia – Literally? When I was about 4 my family visited relatives in Texas, and I have vague memories of sirens and rushing to a town shelter during a hurricane. Now figuratively speaking, all the time!

Charity – Oh! That sounds scary!! We live on the East Coast in Virginia. When Hurricane Isabel came through, it was a big deal. We left town and went to the western part of the state thinking that we would be safe there. Would you believe it totally land jumped and HIT THERE WORSE THAN THE COAST??? What in the world?

isabel

— I am going to have to give it to Olivia. Sirens and shelters sound terrifying!

Charity 0 / Olivia 1

2. What’s the coolest DIY project you have done? Pics?

Olivia – “Coolest” is a matter of opinion, but I had fun refinishing the sewing machine cabinet that belonged to my mom when I was young. So I should get points for sentimentality with a slight demerit for not being able to produce the photo.

Charity – Hmm. No picture? Well, I suppose I shall tell you of my fun endeavors. We are trying to adopt and needed an extra bedroom in our house. SO, we took the living room and “built-in”. Using Ikea wardrobes, we completely built a new bedroom!! You can’t even tell because we painted the backs of them and put crown molding on the top and bottom of each one!

— I get that one!! woot woot!

Charity 1 / Olivia 1

3. What is your favorite, unique holiday tradition (any holiday)?

Olivia – Hands down, chocolate frosted shortbread squares are required at every holiday meal throughout my large extended family. When the menu planning begins, everyone’s first question is “Who’s bringing the shortbread squares?”

Charity – Yum!!!!!!! I need that tradition! We celebrate 99 Days ‘Til Christmas every year. It’s so fun! We put up a few lights, miniature tree, some decorations, eat delicious foods, do small gifts and watch Elf. After all of that, we write out our Christmas Wish Lists. IT’S ONLY 3 WEEKS AWAY!!!

— Tie

Charity 2/ Olivia 2

4. Have you ever been in a maze? Corn maze, tree maze, any kind of maze made for adults?

Olivia – Um, no. And can I say “Achoo!” is what would happen if I went into such a place? (Pity points for allergies.)

Charity – No pity here! ha 😉 I live near Williamsburg and in back of the Governor’s Mansion, there is this cool maze made out of bushes. It’s not one you can get lost in. However, hubby and I went to the one at Luray Caverns and that one is awesome!!!

governors-palace-maze2  91d6e1c2c0e1b5083d5ad5676f8157ec
–Guess who is ahead?!?!

Charity 3 / Olivia 2

5. What is one kitchen appliance that you wouldn’t want to live without?

Olivia – Two Christmases ago my husband gave me a little gadget that warms and froths milk for my coffee. I would not have guessed I’d want one, but I use it every stinkin’ day.

Charity – Now that is cool!!! Froths AND warms?! Wow. I love my keurig. It makes me very happy.

— Your gadget wins!

Charity 3 / Olivia 3

6. What is the funniest joke you know?

Olivia – I concede the point. I’m sure I know funny jokes but I can’t perform when you put me on the spot!

Charity – Oh, honey. You didn’t concede a thing. I am the worst joke teller. ever. I’ve got nothing.

— tie

Charity 4 / Olivia 4

7. Have you ever dropped eggs at a grocery store?

Olivia – No, but I’m guessing a lot of other people have based on the number of broken eggs I find when I check the cartons.

Charity – hmm. Me either. I took a guess because, same as you, I assumed most people have. Weird.

— Tie

Charity 5 / Olivia 5

8. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

Olivia – Several years ago I felt a call to live my life more intentionally from a center of peace in God, which begins by welcoming God into the moments of my life and being more satisfied with a holy presence than I ever would be if I got everything I thought I wanted.

Charity – Beautiful!!!

— God wins!

Charity 5 / Olivia 5

9. Have you ever tried surfing?

Olivia – No, although ironically I went to college in southern California. But in my defense, a) I didn’t have a car to get to the beach; b) I was too nearsighted to get in the ocean without my contacts; and c) I actually studied! But I’m a pretty good web surfer. Does that count?

Charity – ha…it would if I HADN’T TRIED SURFING! Believe me, it wasn’t something you would want to see. I am so uncoordinated. It’s truly ridiculous.

— But…I have tried it!

Charity 6 / Olivia 5

10. Tea or Coffee?

Olivia – I came to coffee late in life–like just two years ago. But as you can guess from my favorite kitchen appliance, I do indulge in a sort of homemade latte every morning now. And when I go to the coffee shop to write on Saturday mornings, the barista knows to start a white rose, extra hot as soon as she sees me come in the door.

Charity – I still haven’t come into coffee. Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy a good cup every once in a while. I just don’t drink it every day. I could drink sweet or unsweet tea every day, all day though.

— Your barista knows your drink!!! I haven’t ever even heard of White Rose Coffee…

Face-Off with Amy Clipston!!

acaboutNow, this is awesome!!! I am facing-off with AMY FLIPPIN’-CLIPSTON!!! (I am pretty sure her name is hyphenated). This girl has authored over 20 bestselling books. Insane!!!

Although she is known for being a fiction writer, Amy, also, wrote a memoir about her kidney donation that saved her husband’s life. You can check it out by clicking on the pic ——>

Besides writing bestselling books, she has won multiple awards. Check out some of them:

Amy is well known for her Amish fiction. Here are a handful from different series that she wrote:

Ok, I think I bragged on her enough. Let’s see if she can bring anything to the table where it really counts!

PicCollageThe rules are simple. I ask Amy some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. What’s the worst outfit you wore as a teenager? Pics????

Amy – You can’t hear me, but I’m sitting here chuckling to myself. I suppose it was when I went through my Madonna stage and I had her jacket from the movie “Desperately Seeking Susan.” I wore the jacket along with lace gloves and big, sparkly sunglasses. I thought I was so cool. Ha ha!  And, no, no pics!

madonna-500x666

Charity – OMGOSH!! I wish I could have seen that!!! Hahaha. I love it. I remember thinking I was the coolest thing with these shorts that had suspenders. I would drop the suspenders, OBVIOUSLY, and then wear a shirt that was signed by all these guys from the different Busch Gardens shows. I stalked them all summer long and always wore the same outfit so all their signatures were on it. Oh. My. Gosh. Embarrassing.

— I think the Madonna outfit might have won that round…

2. When did you know you were going to marry your husband? What did you do that sealed the deal for you?

Amy – Trust and mutual respect sealed the deal for me after being hurt more than once. It only took a couple of months before I realized Joe was the real deal; he was thoughtful, trustworthy, and my soulmate. Yeah, I know—completely corny, but it’s true.

maxresdefault

Charity – Not corny. I was a single mom, so I had no time for losers. Haha. I went out with him one night because he moved here and didn’t know anyone. I was just being friendly (for reelz!!) (even thought he was a fine slab of meat!). Anyway, we went to downtown Norfolk and talked for 4 straight hours about everything God had done in our lives (we had just recently gotten saved). I had never met a man so passionately in love with Jesus just like I was. I came home and told my sister I was going to marry him. I did.

Charity – Girl. You would not even want to see that go down.

4. When you lived in VA, which of the historic triangle destinations was your favorite? Williamsburg, Jamestown or Yorktown? Why?

Amy – Do the Outer Banks count?  I’m not a big history buff, but I went to the Outer Banks frequently. Please don’t unfriend me now.

Charity – Haha. Um, NO! Those are not in the historic triangle!! But, I do love the Outer Banks. We go to Duck every year for our family vacation. Love, love, love the boardwalk there. The ocean and the sound are about 4 blocks from each other, so it’s the smallest, little, cute town!

duck-hero  Duck

I love Yorktown because I spent so much of my childhood there in the Fife and Drum Corp. woot woot!

— I so get that one!

Charity 3 / Amy 3

5. If you could be on any reality show, which one would you choose?

Amy – “Dancing with the Stars,” and I want to dance with Derek Hough. Swoon!

tumblr_n36q4omS9I1sp8cnto10_250

Charity – EW! Ha. Any guy that can move like that…something isn’t right!! I don’t know. I am a major Survivor fan. I would love that, if I was healthier!! So fun. I would say all of Jeff Probst’s phrases along with him and he would be super annoyed.

Charity 4 / Amy 4

6. Best concert you have been to?

Amy – That’s a tossup between Weird Al Yankovic and Brad Paisley. They both put on the most fun and entertaining family-friendly shows I’ve ever seen.

Charity – OMGosh. You are my hero if you went to a Weird Al concert. Did he do White and Nerdy??

— Definitely…Amy!

Charity 4 / Amy 5

7. Where would your dream home be? Pics?

Amy – I suppose my dream home would be on the Outer Banks.

Charity – Greece. White and beautiful.

8. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

Amy – I strive to glorify God through my Christian fiction novels. I pray frequently while I’m writing, and I include scripture verses that truly speak to me in an effort to touch the hearts of my readers.

Charity – Love it!

— God wins!

Charity 5 / Amy 6

9. What’s your biggest phobia?

Amy – I have two—wasps and spiders!  You’ll hear me scream and run like an idiot when I spot one!

Charity – Dentists make me want to die. Hands down. And then snakes.

— You get this because the readers have seen my answer a bajillion times!

Charity 5 / Amy 7

10. Worst thing you have ever eaten?

Amy – I’m not a steak eater, so steak doesn’t appeal to me.  I also don’t care for scallops or oysters.

Charity – Hmm weird. My answer isn’t too cool because I think it would be liver and beets. Barf.

— I am taking it!

Face-Off with Sarah Price!!

Today, I have a super fun lady facing-off with me! vkCAOGK4u_KfppjhjtUve3JChl6j48UFa12bEuo2BZ3b3_r0D_MtxrsaiVzQMBY5s2sdvzi6axL3u0xkudheAh9-2fCbsw9cNmlWEBrcrVG8a2eMF_WXxNLzA--nhLzfyha1ojGA3bOMAPoQ2X_EcqMFxr9ZQeJ36ZoDBqx-mtL7Rs1X4vIuiLKPtCJfGnST0eeHwQDziaBXGwRVj6mMJJ9i1km5ku8ogThe author of more than two dozen novels, Sarah Price brings twenty-five years of experience of living among the Amish to her books, many of which have been Amazon Top 100 Bestsellers. In 2013, she signed with Realms, a division of Charisma House, to publish the Amish Classics series. Initially focusing on the retelling of Jane Austen’s timeless classics from within an Amish setting, her first traditionally published book, First Impressions, A Retelling of Pride & Prejudice, debuted on the ECPA bestseller list.

She intends to continue retelling classics, including the Bronte sisters and Victor Hugo, as she enjoys “raising the bar” on her own intellectual stimulation as well as that of her expansive base of loyal readers.

In 2014, she signed with Waterfall Press and published An Amish Buggy Ride which became a #1 bestseller in Religious Romance.

Let’s have some fun!!!!

11390201_1456391114659129_8405326403297585374_nThe rules are simple. I ask Sarah some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. What is the WORST Jane Austen adaptation kiss scene?

Sarah – I’m not really a movie watcher sooooooo I’m a bad person to ask. I’m a reader. I will tell you the BEST Jane Austen kiss scene (of the few that I’ve watched): Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy at the end of the movie.

*sigh*

Matthew Macfadyen is just the perfect Mr. Darcy. I’m not certain I could have held out from his first proposal like Elizabeth did. Not if Matthew Macfadyen proposed to me. His dark, broody nature is just…*sigh* (she writes as she raises her hand to her forehead and swoons onto her bedroom’s lounge chair).

Charity – Well, I won’t go into THAT because I am not a Kiera Knightley fan. Matthew Macfadyen was a great Darcy though. I just like the 1995 version. *Sigh*

Now, onto the grossest, wettest, slobbery-est kiss of all time? Persuasion 2007 wins.

— I asked for worst…

Charity 1 / Sarah 0

2. If you were going to have as many kids as the Duggers and name them all with one letter, what letter would you choose? Sampling of names?

Sarah – Z. And I’ll tell you why. How much fun in would be to come up with amazing Z names???? Just make them up if you have to. And I am fairly certain that not too many people would have them! Zebediah, Zara, Zinga, Zorse, Zarry, Zia, Zephron, Zate. Plus, Z’s are fun to draw. Did you ever try it?

Charity – Oh, wow. I haven’t given it as much thought as you have…clearly! I do like the “Z” idea. Here’s the thing. If I was going to have as many kids as the Duggars, you could just shoot me now. I mean, I love my kids. I especially love them when they are teenagers! No. More. Babies!!!

How about “P” though? Peter. Piper… Oh, wait.

— You get that one!

Charity 1 / Sarah 1

3. Who would be your dream cast for Persuasion?

Sarah – Oh boy. This totally depends if I’m on set or not.

Robert Pattinson has the sulky “I’m miserable” look that would be picture perfect for Frederick. But I wouldn’t do that to Frederick. So, I’m going to have to select Ben Affleck. He’s still broody-looking but not so miserable. If, however, I get to be on set, I’m going for Colin Farrell (but only if he plucks his eyebrows a bit and doesn’t slick back his hair).

Hey, if I have to lounge around on set, I’d like to enjoy myself a bit.

Anne: A brunette Scarlett Johansson unless I get to be on set. Then I’m voting for Lindsay Lohan, just so I can be privy to her antics. Between Lindsay and Colin, something interesting is BOUND to happen.

Sir Walter Elliott: Morgan Freeman. You have to love his voice! I can see him pulling off a wicked awesome Walter, fretting and mumbling all over the set.

Elizabeth Elliott: Angelina Jolie. Just because I don’t care for her. I doubt that it would be a stretch for her to play a vain Elizabeth.

William Elliott: Jim Carrey. How much fun would THAT be? Let’s kick it up a notch and have some outrageous humor!

Musgrove Sisters: Emma Stone and Jennifer Lawrence. They are both lively and fun, both on and off the screen!

Mary Musgrove: Rebel Wilson. Hands down, she will win over every viewer and steal the show as Mary.

Charles Musgrove: Ansel Elgort. OK, so I just totally heard my thirteen-year old scream in my head. Sorry, Cat, I know you love him but Mommy finds him completely dull and blah in interviews. He could just stand there and not act and he’d nail Charles’ role as the hen-pecked husband of Rebel Wilson.

Captain Benwick: Seth Rogen from Neighbors or Zach Galifianakis from the Hangover movies. Hands-down. Again, really fun people that, presuming I haven’t been kicked off set yet, I want to hang with these guys for a while.

Charity – Oh, wow! Now to try to follow that… Here we go:

Frederick – Jake Gyllenhaal is pretty brooding. I thought that Rupert Penry-Jones was a fabulous choice though. too hard. Ok, I am going to go with Gerard Butler! hahaha. He would be fabulous!

Anne – Emmy Rossum

Sir Walter Elliott – Anthony Hopkins

Elizabeth Elliott – Kate Winslet

William Elliott – How about…Ben Affleck for that one! The ladies man.

Musgrove Sisters – The Fanning Sisters! (Elle and Dakota)

Mary Musgrove – I LOVE your Rebel Wilson idea! hahahaha

Charles Musgrove – Ansel is a great one for him too!!!! Or Robert Pattinson…

Captain Benwick – Paul Rudd would be fun!!

— Tie

Charity 1 / Sarah 1

4. Would you ever consider a life as a unicyclist?

Sarah – I would not.

My balance ability is ZERO (see the Z?). But, when I was eighteen, I did run away with the circus. I helped with tigers and elephants. I also did a little “clowning” around (pun totally intended). I was “in love” and wanted to marry an acrobat who juggled his brother on his feet. Luckily I bounced back to reality (pun intended).

True story.

Obviously, I didn’t marry him. However, I’m still in touch with him. He gave my daughter her dog, Peekaboo (Pica, for short). Apparently Pica was a circus reject, probably because she runs away all of the time.

Charity – Oh my word!! Best Story Ever! I can’t believe you ran away with the circus for an acrobatic, human juggler! HAHAHA! That’s amazing.

— You get that FOR SURE!!!

Charity 1 / Sarah 2

5. Who is the dumbest Disney princess? haha

Frankly, all of them are basically stupid from an intelligence perspective.

Cinderella…her best friend is a mouse and she wears glass slippers. Seriously? How do you walk without breaking them and cutting up your feet?

Snow White: Someone is trying to kill you, Girl! And you take food from an old yucky witch? That’s just plan ignorant.

Alice: I cannot imagine her surviving the real world. She’d be the dream consumer for advertisers, buying everything and anything just because the companies put a little “Buy Me” sign on the product.

Aurora: The fairies warned her not to touch anything and she touches the spindle anyway? (rolls eyes).

Ariel: Seriously, who gives away their voice box? And to Ursula of all people? That was dumb. But Daddy to the rescue, right?

I like Belle. She’s my fav. Her sacrifice for her father is admirable. Plus, I love animals so Beast is right up my alley. I’m not grooving on the yellow gown, though. Mango orange, perhaps.

Charity – Oh my gosh! I am rolling right now. This is amazing. haha! I can’t compete with that…

— I concede!

Charity 1 / Sarah 3

6. Favorite recipe?

Sarah – 1-800-GrubHub.

On Mother’s Day, I was informed by my seventeen-year-old son that I am a “not a great cook” to which my daughter and husband nodded their heads.

I can’t argue with them. I get distracted and burn things all the time. Or I don’t have all of the ingredients so I substitute something and it turns out horrendous. However, to be fair, my husband and daughter do not show up until late (he’s working at the barn and she’s at the barn riding her horses). So I do NOT take responsibility for dried out food.

Charity No! NO! Not on Mother’s Day!!! HAHA! That’s amazing!!!!

I, uh…., love food. SO, I have way too many. I do love this one though!!:

— I am taking it!

Charity 2 / Sarah 3

7. How do you strive to bring the most glory to God in your life?

Sarah – Do good, be good. John Adams used to tell that to his children before he left on long journeys. Growing up, my mother always told me that I should never do something that would hinder me from looking at myself in the mirror.

God gave us a user’s manual: the Bible. I read it almost daily and try to behave as God wants and instructs us. I’m not perfect; none of us are. But He gave me a gift and that was breast cancer. That gift was a game changer. So many horrible things happened since May 31, 2013 when I was diagnosed that I couldn’t even begin to describe them. I maintained a positive, healthy attitude throughout, but as Heraclitus said, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”

Doing good and being good in this world has to maintain a balance with those who view ‘doing good’ as a home-court advantage from them. Especially when you are successful. People want to latch their dreams on your hard work. I write my novels because I love writing. It’s my passion. I believe God tells me what to write. And I’m not going to write to make other people “famous.”

I’ve found that the more good you do for others, the more those people expect from you. And when you put your foot down, feathers get ruffled. Well, feathers can get ruffled. I don’t have to be taken advantage of in order to bring glory to God, as long as I can look myself in the mirror each morning. And I do.

Charity – Wow! Thank you for sharing that, Sarah. I had no idea! God definitely uses those things to grow us.

8. Have you ever done Regency re-enacting? If so, have you been to the Jane Austen Festival or stayed at the cottage from Sense and Sensibility? (you can totally rent it!!!) ❤

Sarah – I have not!

But I do have Regency Days in my house. I pretend I’m Elizabeth Bennet and my family goes bananas. They HATE Regency days. My husband is French and he can’t always understand me when I’m speaking regular. When I try to talk like a high society woman from the early 1800s? Forget it. I might as well be speaking Pig Latin to him.

However, even better…Soap Opera Hour! I respond to everyone as if I’m an actress on a soap opera. Sometimes I can get my son and daughter to play along. My son is actually really good, although I doubt he has ever watched a soap opera. Try this in public. It’s hilarious to see people’s reactions, especially when your family plays along.

Charity – HA! How fun!! We sometimes will act like we are in a musical. My husband and I will sing everything to the kids. They hate it!! They are like, “STOPPPP!!!! Please! I can’t stand it!!!”

Oh, and: IMG_5586 That’s me with the blue top on. Woot Woot!

9. What is the funniest viral video you have ever seen?

Sarah – Tie!

Brian Regan’s Me Monster
vs.
Dane Cook’s Burger King

My son gets soooooo irritated because whenever we go to a drive-thru, I do the Dane Cook’s drive-thru Pickle Person Voice. My daughter rolls with laughter in the back of the car. We usually wind up not getting anything because the drive-thru attendant ignores us after the first thirty seconds. But a great belly laugh builds character (and muscles!)

Charity – So fun to torture our children with those antics. *Sigh*. Life is good…

I have so many that I like. This one is at the top:

10. If you had to quote a speech from one of our founding fathers, could you?

Sarah – It depends how many words you want. “We the people, in order to form a more perfect union…” That’s it. That’s all I got. And I’m not even sure that’s right. Is it?

Charity –  haha. Oh man. No, I don’t think I could and I have no idea if that is correct…”I regret that I have but one life to give for my country”?? Nathan Hale’s speech (That he may, or may not, have given…).

The Promise of Palm Grove

by Shelley Shepard Gray

Another Amish story? That’s two this month. A record! I am pleased to announce that I have enjoyed both. Maybe there’s hope for me yet (;

This is the first book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series. It’s different than most Amish stories in that it takes place in sunny Florida! The town of Pinecraft is a regular hotspot for Amish and Mennonite vacations. I like that this book was so “colorful” (which, when I think of Amish, I usually think in black and white).

Leona is engaged to be married. As she heads to Florida for a two week vacation, she is happy to be getting away to give herself time to think. Her intended is overbearing and has stated more than once that he is not interested in her opinions. As you can imagine, once in Florida, she meets another fella. Zach is a man that watches out for everyone else before himself. A Godly, selfless man. Leona must choose her future. Does she not go back on her word and stay with a man she cannot love, or should she break her word and follow an unknown path?

What I really liked about this book is the kindness and honesty. There are no big dramatic scenes. The characters are loveable and stay true throughout. I found it odd that there was a side story that never came to a conclusion. In fact, it seemed extremely random. I have to assume that it is just because they will be characters throughout the series. Although, in the preview of the second book, they aren’t mentioned. Not sure what to make of that. We shall see, shan’t we?

So, you need to pick up a copy! I definitely recommend it, especially if you love Amish fiction. It is a light and easy read. If you click HERE, you will find a link for a giveaway of this book (and a few others).

Thank you, Litfuse, for a copy of this book. As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!
