Israel – God’s Heart

by Ron Gafni and Kathleen Barrett

image1(2)

Ron Gafni is a professional aerial photographer that has taken many beautiful pictures of the landscapes in Israel. Even if you have had the opportunity to visit the Holy Land (as I have), you will enjoy seeing it from a completely different perspective.

image2(1) I really enjoyed seeing all of the breathtaking views! So, for photos, I highly recommend. Unfortunately, I found that the narrative left a little to be desired. There were definite editing issues and I failed to really get how it all went together. It seems forced – as if they were trying to get a lot more theology in than what works with a picture book.

Overall, it’s fun to look at and I definitely recommend checking it out. The link to Amazon is in the first pic.

Thanks so much for this book! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

Israel’s Mission

with Ray Vander Laan

In this informative DVD, Ray Vander Laan takes us through the some of the prominent cities discussed in the Bible. It is filmed on location as he shows the land, explains the culture, and describes how these tie together with the specific Bible story. This specific study focuses on our call to the lost and hurting people.

Each episode is a little over 30 minutes and is meant to be used with the “Discovery Guide”. It is not necessary, but helpful if you would like to dig deeper into the study. Ray has a solid grasp on the Bible and the environment, culture and history. It is very informative and enjoyable to watch. It can be used as a group study, or for individual use.

Thank you, Litfuse, for this great set! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

I ask Janice some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. Do you wear a fancy hat on Easter Sunday?

Janice – Um, no. But I love the song “Easter Parade,” if that makes any difference.

Charity – That DEFINITELY counts! haha. I am not a fan of the hat or the song…so….

— Janice gets that one!

2. Have you ever had a chimichanga? If so, did you love it?

Janice – Yes. . .and yes. I love anything that’s deep fried. I’m from Texas, where we love all-things-Tex-Mex.

Charity – Mexican is a MAJOR go-to for our family. My sister eats it every single day!!! haha. If they don’t have tacos for lunch, they will have them for dinner. No joke!!

I am VERY ashamed to admit that I don’t ever remember eating a chimichanga though! My husband’s dog was named Chimichanga. That might be part of a deterrent.

— Another point for Janice! Not even my sister’s habits won that one for me!

3. Favorite time in history?

Janice – I love the turn of the century (1900 – 1910). Several of my novels were set during this time period: Hurricane (about the Galveston hurricane of 1900), Queen of the Waves (about the sinking of the Titanic) and Love Finds You in Groom, Texas (set in the Texas panhandle).

Charity – Nice!! I love that too! My favorite times were Regency (Jane Austen) and Revolutionary War (American and British stories). Both were very intriguing!!

4. What is the fanciest kind of car you would want if money was not a concern?

Janice – I love my Equinox but would probably buy something a big larger, if I could afford it—something big enough to hold all eight grandchildren!

Charity – Lucky!! I want grandchildren!!! Man! I would probably go with a Tahoe. They are HUGE and can fit all the teenagers in it that I want to adopt!!!

5. Beach Bum or Hiking Trails?

Janice –Oh, beach bum, for sure! I love going on cruises. My favorite part is the private beach excursions. Swimming in the teal-blue waters off of Grand Cayman ranks high on my list of fun things to do.

Charity – Nice! I am not sure. Tough question. The beach is nice and I love warm weather. I also love hiking.

— It’s always best to know what you like!

6. Favorite character in The Princess Bride?

Janice – Westley, of course! Isn’t he every girl’s dream?

Charity – Absolutely!!!!! However, Fezzik? INCONCEIVABLE!! 1796_108657080017_2451_nOur youngest son used to look like him when he was a baby/toddler. He didn’t get hair FOR-EVER!! It was so funny!! We kept getting him to say “Inconceivable”!! hahahaha

There’s the little bald guy!! —>

— Totally taking that point!!

7. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

Janice – By acknowledging that every good gift comes from Him—whether it’s the gift of life or the artistic giftings He’s placed in my life (writing, baking, directing, acting).

Charity – Love it! Thankfulness in all things ❤

— God wins, OF COURSE!

8. Since you love writing about them, I was wondering if you had a big, elaborate wedding?

Janice –Nope. Surprisingly, I did not. Now, my four daughters did. The first had a large Italian-themed wedding. The second had a garden-party themed wedding. The third had a Hawaiian-themed wedding. The fourth had a lovely traditional wedding. All were lovely.

Charity – Girl, I couldn’t WAIT to get out of there! We didn’t waste time on ANYTHING!! It was walk up the aisle, cut the cake and SCRAM!! Who wants to waste their time hanging out with a ton of people when you JUST GOT MARRIED?

Nope. Nothing fancy here!! (and can I mention how happy I am to have SONS!! haha)

— Tie. We were on the same page.

9. What is the coolest thing you have ever gotten from overseas? (Purchased or Gifted)

Janice –While in Israel in 1991 (just after Desert Storm) I purchased some lovely pottery. I loved it then and love it now.

Charity – Ohhhh! I LOVE Israel! I was going to say a ring box I got from there! It is so beautiful!!

— Tie again!!

Charity 1 / Janice 2

10. Would you ever want a pet monkey?

Janice – Never. No way, no how!

Charity – HAHAHAHA 🙂 I’m right there with ya!

— Ok, totally random and dumb question. I’ll give you a point!

Charity 1 / Janice 3

11. What kind of coffee is your favorite?

Janice – Chai Latte. Oh, wait. . .that’s a tea. Hahaha. Truly, I prefer hot teas over coffee. If I do drink coffee, it has to be weak and very, very sweet (with Italian Sweet Cream creamer).

Charity – I am a big tea lover too!! But, I have a weakness for this coffee here:
Now, that’s serious business!!!

— Since the question was “Which coffee”, I am totally taking the point!

i-lost-the-game-2 and what else is new?

Thanks so much, Janice!! I had a great time getting to know you a little bit better! Looking forward to my great read 🙂

Against the Flow – The inspiration of Daniel in an Age of Relativism

by John C. Lennox

Want to know what life was really like for Daniel as he was drug into captivity along with thousands of other Jewish citizens? Do you want to see what ancient Babylon looked like? This book has everything from how the palace was laid out, which gods were worshiped, the thickness of the wall surrounding the city, to the experiences Daniel and his countrymen would have had to face. Unbelievable! I can’t even imagine the hours spend researching such a book!!!

This is something that I will read and re-read. It really gives you an understanding of what was happening. Inside the book are BEAUTIFUL, glossy pictures depicting the different things found from ancient Babylon to depictions made from the stories in the book of Daniel.

Please pick up a copy! This is one of the best Biblical research books you’ll ever find! It’s certainly the most thorough work I’ve read!!!! Link is in the pic above. it will also make a great gift for any pastor, student, or friend interested in learning more about the Bible.

Thank you, Litfuse, for this wonderful book!! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!!

The Covered Deep

by Brandy Vallance

Covered-Deep-Large-AngledHow often does an author write their debut novel with such well deserved fanfare? Not often! Brandy Vallance explodes onto the the Christian Fiction scene with The Covered Deep. (Are you still stuck on the fact that I used the word “fanfare”? Me too!)

Bianca Marshal has won the adventure of a lifetime. Being chosen as one of four to go on a Holy Land excursion, she is ready to completely enjoy herself and, just maybe, fall in love. She finds that there is much more to being chosen than she originally thought. Her faith in God is put to the ultimate test and she must fight to forgive where forgiveness is most impossible.

I love the depth of scripture and faith in this book. So often, in a Christian romance, we find fleeting discussions of faith, but nothing of substance. This entire book is based around her faith and trust in God. It is also full of adventure, intrigue, romance, mystery and forgiveness. Please pick up a copy of this book, plus another for a Christmas gift! I have made it very simple. Just click here!!

If you would like a chance to win a copy of The Covered Deep, just comment below (with an email address, so I can contact you in case of a win). It doesn’t have to be witty. A simple, “pick me!” would do just fine. I would also appreciate it if you would follow my blog and share this post with some friends!

Son of Hamas

by Mosab Hassan Yousef (with Ron Brackin)

son of hamas

Oh My Goodness. Let me just tell you that this is one of the most amazing books you will ever read. If you follow the news AT ALL, you have heard of the Hamas. They are responsible for many suicide bombings and other attacks that you have seen and heard about in Israel. This is the story of Sheikh Hassan Yousef’s son and heir to the Hamas legacy.

Sheikh was one of the founding fathers of the Hamas, and, by far, the most powerful. His son, Mosab, was expected to follow in his footsteps and lead this radical group. All was in place until he was shown the amazing love and mercy of Christ and begin to work and spy for Israel.

This is 100% true and will keep you wide awake while reading it at 2:00am (since most of us are mommies and that’s the first freakin’ second we have to ourselves).

While this is not a new release (copyright 2010, 2011), a movie, The Green Prince (based on the code name used by the Israelis), is coming to theaters and is a MUST SEE.

You can look at this website to find out when it is coming to a theater near you. If it isn’t, you can request it:

The Green Prince

In honor of the movie coming to theaters, I would love to give away a copy of this AMAZING book.
