Counter Culture

by David Platt

Wow. This man, his faith and obedience, always inspires me so much. I loved, LOVED this book. He is such an incredible disciple because he is willing to obey God in all things.

The subjects tackled in this book are brave, to say the least. I don’t know many people that would be willing to even comment on most of these topics, let alone write a book with their name on it.

David writes on topics ranging from abortion, sex, ethnicity, and even refugees. Have questions about what God says in these areas? I bet you don’t want to know! Ignorance is bliss…or is it? Do God really know what is best for us? Are we willing to fall in love with Him, trust Him and, most importantly, surrender to Him?

I hope so. I know the road is narrow, but let’s make it a little wider.

Be sure to pre-order Counter Culture: Following Christ in an Anti-Christian Age. It is a revised and updated version of the original with an extra chapter added based on the refugee crisis. Release date set for February 7, 2017.

Thanks for this read! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

Sand in My Sandwich (and Other Motherhood Messes I’m Learning to Love)

by Sarah Parshall Perry

What an important book! Let me tell you, this is such a big topic because it is something that so many people are dealing with. Marriage struggles, children with severe “disorders” and personal health problems. Sound familiar? Welcome to the modern mom’s life!

Sarah attacks this subject with a vigor and complete honesty. Her boys’ medical rap sheets include a diagnosis of severe autism, Asperger’s syndrome, OCD, among other things. While she takes us in the everyday life of a mom trying to understand her child, she does so with wit, passion and a deep love of God.

Please pick up a copy of this book. You might think twice before scowling at the family in the booth next to you as their child is crying, vomiting, screaming, etc… Bible verse after Bible verse, Sarah talks us through her growth. It’s such a beautiful picture. It brought tears to my eyes. As you know, I am someone that believes in transparency (thus the name of my blog). Sarah doesn’t hide a thing! She lays it out there so that God can be given all the glory and we can learn and grow from her life lessons.

Thank you, Revell, for a copy of this wonderful book! As always, this is my honest review. Here’s to many more!!

The Mingling of Souls – God’s Design for Love, Marriage, Sex & Redemption

by Matt Chandler

As a huge fan of Matt Chandler, I figured I would like this book. As usual, he didn’t disappoint!! He’s always digging into the cultural meanings and language barriers to bring a strong message for those that really want to grow.

In The Mingling of Souls, Matt takes us verse by verse through the Song of Solomon. Yup, he tackles that one. It’s an awesome book for singles, couples and marrieds (?is that a word?). He shows the strengths and weaknesses of Solomon and how that is relevant in our culture today. God is static. It’s our culture that changes. He never does. So, same rules apply. You just have to dig deep enough to understand what God is saying.

I definitely recommend this book to all individuals, whether they are considering a relationship or are currently in one. We can always grow our character and make things better (even if I do have the perfect husband *sigh*).

Thanks so much, netgalley, for this awesome book!! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!!

Description: Marriage is great, but it’s not forever. It’s until death do us part. Then come eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spent our lives.

In his latest book, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: โ€œHow do I have a healthy marriage?โ€ Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls.

In the same way Crazy Love changed the way we saw our personal relationship with God, You and Me Forever: Marriage in Light of Eternity will radically shift the way we see one of the most important relationships in our life.

Jesus was right. We have it all backwards. The way to have a great marriage is by not focusing on marriage. Whether you are single, dating or married, You and Me Forever will help you discover the adventure that you were made for and learn how to thrive in it.

il_fullxfull.368274221_8jjbYou know those days that you look as terrible you feel? When your husband gets home from work and the house is trashed, the kids are crazy and you are still in your yoga pants with your hair piled on top of your head in a messy knot? Yeah, I am sure you have seen what I am talking about in a movie or something…I wouldn’t know. Wait, that’s like…every day?! ahhh

How do I know I have an amazing man? Because he comes home and says that there’s no rush to make dinner. We can have frozen pizza and I will rub your feet and make you a smoothie while we wait.

You know those times when you spend too much money even though you really tried hard to stay in the budget? Not me…. Wait, that’s like…every day?!

How do I know I have an amazing man? Because he loves me and continues to allow me to make mistake after mistake. He surprises me with “Hey, baby! I have a $40 Amazon credit for you. Go on an internet shopping spree!!”

59f231532760f31f46e6173a7e8a481eYou know those times when everyone has gone to bed for the night and you finally have some time to yourself? Then you start feeling down and overwhelmed? Not me. Wait…that’s like…ok, You get the point.

How do I know I have an amazing man? Because he gets up and makes me tea and spends time with me. He loves me above himself. He makes breakfast for me sometimes and leaves it in the fridge for when I get up. He is always thinking of me above himself.

Girls, don’t settle for anything less. Find a man that loves God with all his heart and puts you above himself. What an incredible life you will have. Problems, of course. But I can overcome anything when I know that he wants to do the right thing. When I know that he wants to bring God glory. When I know that he loves me that much.
