by Judith Miller
I’m going to be honest. This is the first book I have read by Judith Miller, which is surprising since she is known for both historical and Amish fiction.
Ewan McKay has moved from Ireland to West Virginia to make his life as the proprietor and manager of a brickyard. Laura Woodfield is invested in his brickyard and wants to do everything she can to help. What is a story without a bit of intrigue though? Of course, Laura has a “secret” that she knows will ruin her chances of love, so she is resolved to live life in a loveless marriage.
Usually a story has many ups and downs. You have huge calamities and make you wonder when and how things will work out. This book was an easy read because it was smooth. It was not going from one big catastrophe to the next. I also have to say that I was impressed with her knowledge of the history of brickmaking. She definitely did her research for this book!!
