Just for GIGGLES. I will show you a couple of my favorite books growing up. The covers are so horrendous that it’s a bit embarrassing. ha ha ha ha ha.
1. Now, I understand that you are probably laughing, but, believe me, this isn’t the worst!!! If you want a good mystery, this is THE BEST mystery book I have ever read. You definitely want to check it out. *scary* Still, it is not my fault that publishers don’t make good judgement calls when it comes to their covers. Besides, it probably looked great in 1991, when it was released!
2.Ok, so THANK GOODNESS they decided to update this sucker. If you have seen my face-offs, you may have seen the covers I was subjected to growing up.
In fact, I’ll show you. See?? See what those of us that grew up in the 80’s and 90’s were subjected to?!
Well, the good news it, it’s a really great story and I’ll always be in love with Roman.
(and it’s only $2.99….no idea why….)
3.Alright, so this isn’t the original cover either. I actually think the original may be better!! This is a series that starts with the pilgrims and Gilbert Winslow. The next book is about his son. Each proceeding book carries on the line of Winslow so that you see them go from the start of the New World all the way to current days.
It’s REALLY cool because as the family grows so large, you get to see so many aspects of it. By the time of the Civil War, you have grown to love the family because you have gotten to know them from each previous book, but you see them fighting against each other as Yankees and Confederates. Such an awesome idea and a GREAT series. This is an idea of what the books used to look like:
4.Lastly, I present you with The Hawk and the Jewel. Another book that I enjoyed. Not nearly as much as the first ones I shared with you, but a reading staple, nonetheless.
Here would be our lovely cover that we got to enjoy immensely. Isn’t it so nice? Are you glad now that we have such beautiful book covers in this day and age? I feel like I am an ancient grandma. Nope, I assure you, not yet. I fee like it, but I am only almost 40. *sigh* We sure had strange tastes in book covers and such (not to mention clothes, furniture and other decor).
Hope you enjoyed and check them out! They really are great reads! ha ha ha. Of course, I haven’t gone back and read them since I became so “savvy” a reader (;
Do you have any from your past? Share them in the comments! Would love to see them. If you can’t post a pic, and I get some different comments, I’ll look them up and present them in a post as your favorite oldies (:

I have this version of The Hobbit. I think this one has been printed in 2001.

I also have an old version of White Fang. This one has been printed in 1983.

Both books were used books we bought when I was a child ๐

Here’s what recent editions look like ๐
