From the first page of Lorna’s debut novel, I was HOOKED! Lake Manawa was a real place in Iowa where the wealthy would CAMP during the summer months around the Turn of the Century. It was so beautiful!! Head on over to Lorna’s Lake Manawa Page and see these cool pics!! Her first series is centered around this storyline. So awesome.
Check out these books for only $4.99 each!
In her new series, we get to know the Gregory sisters. This is also based around the Turn of the Century.
As Love Blooms released YESTERDAY!
Let’s get to it, shall we?
The rules are simple. I ask Lorna some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.
It’s my blog.
Here we go!
1. Have you ever milked a cow?
Lorna – I grew up on a farm, but my brother will be quick to tell you I am the worst farm girl ever born. I have not milked a cow, my brother and I bottle fed a little black Angus calf I named Snow White. (I was into irony at an early age.) Snow was a twin and her mother would only feed one of the calves, so we were given the stronger of the two to take care of.
Charity – Grew up on a farm? That’s pretty cool. I might give you a run for your money as the worst farm girl. I haven’t ever needed to try, but I can tell you that it wouldn’t go well…
My 16 year old son has an Cow Milking app. It’s frightening.
Link is in the pic for those of you that want to give it a try! HAHA!!

2. What’s the best vacation you’ve ever had?
Lorna – We’ve had a lot of great vacations, but I’m hoping the best is yet to come. This September, my husband and I are going on a cruise to Alaska to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Two of our best friends are joining us, and we can’t wait.
Charity – oh wow! That sounds AMAZING!!! Honestly…our best vacations haven’t been anything fancy. My hubby and I like to randomly book a hotel in a neighboring town. Feels like a vacation because we are “gone”, but it’s really just us 30 minutes from home watching movies, going out to eat and enjoying each other. (ooh la la!)
We’ve done Disney and a yearly beach vacation and…lots of others. Those times just don’t compare!
— I did say “you’ve ever had”

3. Do you collect anything?
Lorna – Dust. Piles of paper. Dirty dishes. Do those count?
Okay. I do collect antique dolls and have since I was a little girl. When I was about ten or eleven, I came home from school one day to find 30 Nancy Ann Storybook dolls in their original boxes lying on our living room floor. My dad had been to an auction and had purchased them for $7 each. A little girl’s dream come true.
Charity – I had never heard of those, so I found a pic online (because I’m guessing most of my readers haven’t either!)
I used to collect Fenton Art Glass like there was no tomorrow. However, we downsized and I just don’t have room to keep collections. So, *fart noise* out they go!

4. Worst Home Networking Business? (Like Thirty-One, Pampered Chef, etc…)
Lorna – About the time I got married, there was one that had lingerie, and my friends had a party/shower for me. One word -embarrassing. Need I say more?
Charity – Talk about ooh-la-la!! I want someone to get me a bunch of pretties!
I have to be honest. I never got Thirty-One. I mean, the bags are so overpriced and poorly made! ahhh!!! If you are a Thirty-One consultant, feel free to try to change my mind by explaining the hype!! I always have an open mind. I just haven’t figured it out yet..

5. Worst impulse buy?
Lorna – Oh good, I can tell one on my husband. While I was in labor, he bought something called the “Banjo Minnow” from an infomercial. Really? Fishing devices while I’m giving birth to an 11 lb. 8 oz. baby girl? And no, I’m not bitter about it.
Charity – Oh my gosh! hahahahaha! There is no competing with that! Of course, I hadn’t heard of the “Banjo Double O Six Minnow” before, so I watched this video!! HAHAHA
— Lorna! Hand’s down (thank the hubby)

6. Do you have a keurig? If so, favorite k-cup?
Lorna – We do have a Keuring, but I’m not a coffee drinker. My drink of choice is Ghirardelli double cocoa with a splash of cream. Mmmm, makes me crave it just thinking about it.
Charity – I am all about the Cinnabon Coffee. YUM!

7. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?
Lorna – What a great question! I believe in the verse that says, “Whatever you do in word or deed, do it all to the glory of God.” So whether I’m scrubbing toilets or writing books, I try to do with an attitude of pleasing Him. It try to be genuine and to truly see people as he sees them. This year, I’m focusing on extending grace instead of questioning someone’s motives. I want to love like Jesus loves.
Charity – Love it! Beautiful.

8. Have you ever gone skiing?
Lorna – Once. I was miserable at it (as I am with most athletic endeavors). However, being an Iowa girl, I can drive a mean sled. We had a sledding hill on our farm called Murder. If it didn’t kill you to climb the hill, it might kill you when you came down it on your sled.
Charity – Oh!! Nice!!!! Girl, I am right there with you. I can’t run to the end of my street (and we live on the CORNER!).
— At least you can do A sport! Sledding!! How fun.

9. Only using ingredients you currently have in your home, best crock-pot meal you could make?
Lorna – Chocolate lava cake. In fact, I think I may have to go make that right now.
Charity – Crock-Pot lava cake? Nice!! Who knew….
I would throw chicken in (only AFTER I added a crock-pot liner) and a bottle of BBQ Sauce. The end.
— Your’s sounds way cooler than mine!

10. Do you have a bright and cherry front door (like bright yellow), or just a normal door?
Lorna – I live in a hundred year old home, so our door came with the house. The door has beveled glass panels, which I love, and is made of a dark oak. Even though the door isn’t red, I like to keep it cheery by making seasonal wreaths for it. Currently, I’ve been gathering the supplies to make an arrangement inside a rain boot for the door.
Charity – Mine is so cute!! As you can see in the second pic, I have little, stained glass windows at the top!
I really want to paint it a bold color. Just haven’t gotten around to it…
— Taking it!!!

What a fun interview! I’m wondering if the dolls were like the Madame Alexander dolls. I enjoyed the face-off with Lorna. What gorgeous book covers you have, Lorna! The historical ones have an edge over contemporaries in the pretty gowns, hats, etc. Although, maybe I’ll throw a pretty dress and a hat on a cover girl for a contemporary one of these days! Why not? And Charity, Fenton glass–you ditched it? Seriously? I. Am. Gasping… But I’ll get over it. Blessings, ladies!
