The Reluctant Duchess

by Roseanna M. White

Another fabulous read from Roseanna M. White. In this book, she continues on with the characters from The Lost Heiress. The Duke of Nottingham is back and as brilliant as ever!! As he seeks God’s will at every turn, he is surprised by what God asks him to do next…

What a great book. It captures the good and the bad of the ton during the Edwardian era. It’s beautifully written and the characters have so much depth. God is so intertwined with this storyline that there wasn’t anywhere that had to stop to include Him. That’s so rare in a story and it’s VERY appreciated. No token prayer here and there in this one!

I love that Roseanna is not scared to talk about heavy issues either. Women were property that had the purpose of providing their spouse with money (by way of a dowry) and an heir. They were easily taken advantage of and ruined for life. Speaking out about rape and bullying is much needed even now.

If you have not read the first book, you will need to. The story will be confusing without. It’s definitely not a stand-alone novel. I do highly recommend! All of you coming off of 6 seasons of Downton, this is your chance to get an Edwardian fix!!! Just click on the links below to get your copy:

Thanks so much for this great book in exchange for my review. As always, this is my honest opinion! Here’s to many more!!

Be sure to check out my exciting face-off with Roseanna!

At Love’s Bidding

by Regina Jennings

First of all, you know its going to be a great book when the cover is so beautiful! Secondly, it’s Regina Jennings! Come on!!

In this fun and offbeat story, Miranda Wimplegate is a proper Boston woman that heads out to the middle of nowhere to find a painting that was unintentionally sold at her auction house. Once she shows up in this little town, she is confused about who there would need or want such a fancy painting. While working with the local auction house, she is forced to spend her days with a scruffy backwoodsman, Wyatt Ballentine.

Of course, love blooms in the Ozarks 🙂 Another great story by Regina. Lots of fun, great characters, good pace and interesting storyline. I would highly recommend!

Thank you, Litfuse, Netgalley and Bethany House, for this great read. As always, this is my honest opinion! Here’s to many more!!

The rules are simple. I ask Josi some random questions. She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. Have you ever taken a trip on a train?

Josi – No but I want to–in England, preferably. 🙂

Charity – Oh, yes!!! That would be amazing. I actually went on a trip from Virginia to New York on a train and then another time from Connecticut to Virginia! It was a surprisingly nice way to travel…now that you don’t have to worry about bandits!

— Woot! I get that one!

Charity 1 / Josi 0

2. Do you like roller coasters? Favorite?

Josi – Nope.

Charity – Oh my stars!!! The Rock N Roller Coaster is my favorite!! It’s at MGM in Disney. It goes from 0-60mph in like 2 seconds or something.

— I am taking it!

Charity 2 / Josi 0

3. Favorite Jimmy Fallon series? (Hashtags, evolution of rap, lip-sync contest, etc…)

Josi – Lip-sync–the one with Emma Stone is my favorite.

Charity – Oh, that is a really good one!!!! There are too many to choose! I really like his hashtag sketch with Justin Timberlake! However, I think that my favorite are the “Ew” sketches!

4. What would your reaction be if you were told that you were going to have to sing the national anthem at a major, televised, sporting event?

Josi – “Uh, you’ve got the wrong person.”

Charity – ha! To the point! I would probably need a change of pants…

— Tie

Charity 4 / Josi 2

5. Biggest cooking mishap?

Josi – I was making a lemon poppyseed cake and thought I was putting in lemon extract to pump up the flavor but it was mint. Luckily, I had chickens at the time and they loved it.

Charity – Oh my gosh! I can’t compete with that. haha. That’s awesome!!!

— Josi gets that one!

Charity 4 / Josi 3

6. Are you a fan of all the cupcake shops and strange cupcakes that are offered? (like bacon and maple!!!)

Josi – Yes!

Charity – giphy

— Josi gets it.

Charity 4 / Josi 4

7. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

Josi – Acknowledge that all I have is from Him and all that I can have is because of the sacrifice of his Son. I try to reflect this in my life and in my storylines.

Charity – Beautiful!

— God wins!

Charity 4 / Josi 4

8. Have you ever spent an entire day fishing? Would you enjoy it?

Josi – No and No. But I like to eat fish so I support other people who want to spend their days fishing 🙂

Charity – I concur. With every bit of your answer.

— Tie

Charity 5 / Josi 5

9. Funniest cat video on youtube?

Josi – I hate videos. Can’t multi-task.

Charity – I have to go with this one:

Face-Off with Elizabeth Camden + a GIVEAWAY!!!

W8pPyEGElKy9Omgsaza4N1y-lIp7s7vt8BjVfQjkGoMI8sD_4aDMthwiGo7v-XXwFzLGT-3xzUGYcHf7ZrT5Xe1xghW_GtsDpJd4au9Gi30JrKw5zywwdr9nt_7izuMP0v8eMTB9FAtoDCScypDPG6oPuBl7kAsuBTXKqhvsT9X90LaBuaDsChv7AYnGOkPw3rIltwYiPyKkkc3c_NRVfcg9Dq-JVmY9b

Oh, yeah! It’s time for an EPIC FACE-OFF between Elizabeth and Charity (don’t worry about me speaking in the first person. It won’t happen again!).

Rules are simple. I ask Elizabeth a question. She gives me her answer, I reply. Whoever has the better answer gets 1 point. I decide who has the better answer.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!!

1. Have you ever met someone with the name Precious, or anything odd like that?

Elizabeth – I once knew a college professor whose name was ‘December Green.’ She was a really nice lady, but it was a little odd for such a professional woman.

Charity – Hmm. Yes, that is odd. It’s quite tragic, really. I knew two girls, sisters, named Summer and Winter. Totally weird. Never met a Precious though. At the store, a couple of weeks ago, a Diamond was helping me out. Oh, I GOT IT!! I GOT THIS POINT. OK, my Mother in Law just retired, but was a teacher. One of her students….get this. His name was: Thunder Rolling Down a Mountain

No. Joke.

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 0

2. What is your favorite Starbucks drink?

Elizabeth – McDonald’s Coffee. I’m just too thrifty to shop at Starbucks.

Charity – hmm. I do love McDonald’s Mochas!! YUM! I also love it in the fall because Starbucks has a Salted Caramel Mocha. OMGoodness. That is where it’s AT!

— Thriftiness does win over lack of self control 😦 boooooooo!

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 1

3. Do you have any serious phobias?

Elizabeth – I’ve got all kind of social phobias, mostly cured, but when I was little I simply couldn’t talk to strangers, clung to my Dad’s leg, all that stuff. Even in high school I had it pretty bad, but in college I majored in Theater because it forced me out of my comfort zone. That was HUGE. I learned to fake social confidence. I call myself a “stealth nerd.” I can confidently go into any situation and be poised and lead a conversation with anyone from a state congressman to a janitor. I’m good at it, but to this day it isn’t easy. I simply smile and ask a lot of questions, and people love talking about themselves, so it works out well.

Charity – LOL. I totally get that! I feel the same way. I just ask a question and off they go. But, I am truly interested in their lives, which causes them to tell me more. That’s nice. I love “listening” to people and letting them get things off their chest. I am always really freaked out when I go home after hanging out with someone. I’m like…..Did I say something stupid. blah blah blah. So, I hear you!!

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 1

4. If you knew you would succeed and be prosperous, would you become a lion tamer?

Elizabeth – No, nein, non! There are more important things than success and prospering….keeping myself away from terrifying animals is one of them! I’m too prissy to ever enjoy them.

Charity – Ha ha ha. That was truly the most random question. I don’t think I could do it either!!! I love that you said you are “too prissy” ha ha! That’s awesome. Everyone calls me The Princess from The Princess and the Pea.

— Tie

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 1

5. Home Style? Mod, Country, Colonial, or just a hodge podge of everything?

Elizabeth – Any room with lots of shelves loaded down with books feels like home to me.

Charity – Oh, I am super organized. I love Ikea, for that very reason. Our home is basically one big Ikea showroom. So, I have to go with mod to cozy…?

— How to win? Tie again…?

6. Favorite historical movie?

Elizabeth – Check out Mountains of the Moon, a great historical movie based on real life adventurers in Victorian Africa. Romantic, inspiring, heart-breaking, funny, and beautiful.

Charity – I have never heard of it! I will. I wonder if it’s on Netflix or Amazon Prime….

I really love this series that came out in the 80’s. It was made for TV, but Barry Bostwick and Patty Duke starred in it and it was about the life of George Washington. Absolutely awesome! Goes from him as a child through his death. It’s hours upon hours.

— We can’t seem to outdo each other…

7. Have you ever seen a shark, or been swimming near one (since you live in Florida)?

Elizabeth – No, but I regularly see alligators, snakes, and bugs the size of my palm.

Charity – Wait…WHAT????? WHY?

— no contest there…

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 2

8. Biblical character you most relate to?

Elisabeth – I think Peter the Apostle. His heart was in the right place, but he suffered from fear and anxiety, and was often overshadowed by the more articulate and prolific Paul.

Charity – OMGosh. You did not just say Peter. ha ha ha. I have the same answer. I feel like I just want to jump at whatever God says and not even think!!! It’s ridiculous!!! I love Him so much, you know?! I would say David too. I pray a lot like he did.

— Ridiculous tie!

9. What is your favorite restaurant?

Elizabeth – McDonalds. See above! My husband and I spend every Saturday morning there, readingthe paper, drinking coffee, and shooting the breeze. We occupy the same booth for hours, and the management never tries to nudge us away. We love the place!

Charity – Do you even realize how much I love you right now? When I was a teenager, I used to say, “I know I have found my soulmate when he takes me on a date to McDonalds. LOL!!!! Now, I still love McDonalds, but Chili’s is our go to date night restaurant.

— This is getting silly!

10. Real, actual, Bible at church, or do you use an iPad Bible?

Elizabeth – Real bible! I downloaded it once to my iPad, but it was too difficult to use.

Charity – I may as well say “ditto” to everything you say.

— tie

11. Lastly, What’s the first thing you want to do when you get to Heaven?

Elizabeth – I’d love to meet my grandfather. He died when I was 12, so I was never able to have a real conversation with him….but he was an amazing man! He only had a 4th grade education, having dropped out of school to help support his family back in the 1910’s before there were decent social safety nets. Anyway, he went on to go to night school, and rose very high in the business world. When he retired in the 1960’s he was on the Board of Directors for a Fortune 100 company. He had an amazing life story, but I was too young to ask him the kind of questions I’d really like to know.

Charity – Oh wow! That is incredible!!! I’m telling you, girl…All I care about is running up into Jesus’ arms and never leaving!!!!!! I’m going to sit on His lap and be a God hog for all eternity. Just snuggle on in!!!!

FINAL:

Charity 1 / Elizabeth 2

That was literally the closest and most ridiculous Face-Off I have ever done! We are two peas in a pod, you and I!

At least, that’s what I keep telling myself…

Thank you, SO MUCH, Elizabeth for such a fun Face-Off!!! I appreciate your time AND your awesome books (:

Dina Sleiman Radio Interview! Wha Wha?!

You may have noticed that I kinda like that Dauntless book by Dina Sleiman. It’s a great YA book and I think that is so important! We need so many more of these. Well, if you would like to hear what Dina has to say about the historical accuracy of her book, how she chose it, how she got into writing and what the sequel will be like, just click on this link: 03-04-15 – Dauntless. It’s only 8 minutes long, so you don’t have to worry that you’ll be stuck at the computer for an hour (;

It’s Release Day!! Young Adults Celebrate!!!!

Not only is Dauntless releasing today (link in the pic), but we have another awesome Young Adult book that released today. How exciting!! I know, as a mother of teenagers, how important it is that they have good, solid, moral books in their hands as they are growing and learning to love God. It is so exciting to see the amount of AMAZING books that are within our reach in this day and age. So, head on over to pick up a copy of Dauntless, but I have to remind you about ANOTHER YA book.
Jody Hedlund has released a new book today as well!! I have reviewed both books in the last couple of weeks, so you are able to check those out. If you want to read my review on Dauntless, just click here. If you want to see what I thought of An Uncertain Choice, you can click here.
If you love romance, intrigue, BEAUTIFUL COVERS and wonderful morals, than I can’t emphasize this enough. PICK UP A COPY OF EACH OF THESE FOR YOUR KIDDOS! (and you’ll want to read them too. I’m just saying…). Give them something good to fill their minds in this age when they are inundated with a constant flow of filth and lies.

Guess what else? Jody has become so burdened by this very problem, that she has decided to address it.

She told me, “Right now I’m in the midst of trying to bring him DiscussionGuideCoverPMglory through my new YA book, An Uncertain Choice. It’s my passion and desire that young women can use the book to talk about dating and relationships during a time when it’s VERY much needed (especially in light of the recent release of the Fifty Shades of Grey movie). I’ve developed an extensive discussion guide that corresponds with the book and hope God will use the book and guide to facilitate lots of good discussion about what it means to have God-glorifying relationships.

Created by Jody for group discussion or individual study, the discussion guide is a great tool to share with your friends, daughters, and youth groups.

**Be aware there are spoilers, if you read the guide prior to reading An Uncertain Choice.”

Excited!

Many of you know that one of my favorite authors is MaryLu Tyndall. She writes the most fun “swashbuckling” tales you can find!!! Her newest book is being released in July!! I can’t wait!! Here’s a bit about it:

————————————————————————

The Reckoning – Legacy of the King’s Pirates Book 5  –  July 2015

When Morgan Shaw crept into the hold of an old pirate ship replica at San Diego’s Annual Tall Ship Festival, her only intention was to avoid the guy who had just dumped her and who was now boarding the ship with two women on his arm. What she didn’t expect was to wake up aboard a real pirate ship three-hundred years in the past. But of course, it wasn’t real. Her wealthy father had obviously staged it all in an effort to get her mind off her upcoming chemo. Or had he?

Rowan Dutton seeks enough treasure to repay a debt to his sister and reinstate the Dutton name among British Jamaican Society. He is but one major haul away from accomplishing his goal when a strange woman appears on his ship and causes him to lose his prey. Despite his anger, he is enthralled with the little minx, her strange clothing, odd speech, and her insistence that they are all actors playing a charade paid for by her father.

Yet when the brazen little lady divulges Rowan’s secret to a longtime nemesis, events are triggered that could cost them both their lives and change the course of history forever.

————————————————————————

Two of my favorite series by her are:

Escape from Paradise Series

After the Civil War, many of the Confederate officers and southerners tried to escape to South America. Some wanted to so they could rebuild their confederacy and some were just trying to escape a court martial. They did rebuild a huge colony which is in Brazil. Every year, they still celebrate the confederacy and their part in making Brazil what it is today. Here is a picture of one of their annual celebrations: This series follows a crew that moved there and started a colony. It is so intriguing. You won’t be able to put it down! Wonderful books!!!!

She also has a wonderful series called Surrender to Destiny:

These are centered around The War of 1812. Many people forget (or don’t even know) that we still battled England after the Revolutionary War. This is such an amazing series and with each book being only $1.99, you can’t go wrong!! Pick these up and you WON’T regret it!

The Trouble with Patience

by Maggie Brendan

Link is in the pic.

Welcome to the wild west! Cowboys, sheriffs, cattle thieves, you name it! Patience has moved into town to take over her Grandmother’s boarding house. She couldn’t wait to get away from her horrible mother (I only mention this because that HORRIBLE woman was named CHARITY!!!! ha ha).

This is a story about dealing with your past, forgiveness, trust and love. It’s a light, easy read. As expected, it ends up with everything wrapped in pretty little bows (: But, who likes a book without a good ending, right??

If you love the wild west, easy, light and relaxing reads, this is the book for you! Maggie Brendanhas written quite a few of these books, so she knows what she’s doing!

You can check out our face-off if you would like to know a little more about her. I had a fun time with it!! (:

Thanks, netgalley, for this read! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!
