Charity’s Cross

by MaryLu Tyndall

Before I get into anything, I need to say, GREAT HEROINE NAME! Woot Woot!

<– Check them out here!

Charity’s Cross is book four in the Charles Towne Belles series and it’s just as fabulous as the others! MaryLu is absolutely one of my favorite authors. Her books were some of the first I started reading in the Christian Fiction genre. Her stories are always fun stories full of pirates, passion and faith.

The book starts out saying, “Charity killed her husband.” and so began an adventurous story. As she is on the run after killing her husband in self defense, she meets a preacher named Elias. They travel together, under a set of strange circumstances, causing love to bloom. When he learns of her past, what will he do?

Always full of hard issues, deep faith and heart-stopping action. I love this author and her love for God. It spills over into her books in such a special way!! I highly recommend you picking up a copy!

Thank you, MaryLu, for this awesome book in exchange for my review! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

The Reckoning

by MaryLu Tyndall

As you know, I am a huge MaryLu fan. Her stories are fun and exciting. This one took me a bit by surprise. Morgan has been diagnosed with cancer and only has a few months to live. In a surprising twist, she ends up back in time on a pirate ship called The Reckoning. It’s here that she finds herself and the things that are important in life.

MaryLu’s books are always well written. I thought this was a little out of my comfort zone because I wasn’t expecting a fantasy type book. If I had known that going in, I would have probably thoroughly enjoyed it! The characters were wonderful. The story had plenty of action and depth. Overall, a great read.

Thanks, MaryLu, for getting this book to me! As always, this is my honest opinion. Here’s to many more!!

Abandoned Memories

by MaryLu Tyndall

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.” – Ephesians 6:12

Breathtaking. Suspenseful. Terrifying. Beautiful.

There are so many words to describe this book. You know when a book sticks with you? After you read it, you think on it and think on it? That is what this series will do to you.

Abandoned Memories is the third book in the Escape From Paradise series and it is a WHOPPER! Through the series, we get to know a bunch of colonists that left America after the Civil War. They all left for different reasons, but they basically wanted to start a “new south” in Brazil. The cool part? All of this is true! It was the only recorded exodus in the history of America. You should check out this article to find out more about it!!! (Link is in the pic)

confederados-brazil3-550x366

In this final installment, the battle with the forces of evil in their town has escalated and they must seek God to fight it. We also get to FINALLY see Angeline’s and James’ stories. They were my favorite from the start!! This book is NOT for the weak of heart. It is surely going to open your eyes to the battle we don’t see. It is a beautiful story of grace and redemption. I wish I could give it 10 stars!! (Looky there! I just did!!).

Bravo, MaryLu! As always, you have given me a book I really enjoy. However, you went above and beyond this time. *still trying to catch my breath*

Her books are sure to take you on a fabulous, pirate adventure! Unless, of course, you are reading one of her historical novels about the War of 1812 or about the confederate people that ran to Brazil to start a new “South” (totally true!!).

She replies and then I give my answers. Each winning answer is worth one point and I get to decide whose answer is better.

It’s my blog.

Here we go!

1. What’s your favorite nail polish color?

MaryLu – Pink!

Charity – Uh, what day of the week is it again? Brown, Pink, Red, Orange….I DON’T KNOW! Too hard.

— It’s better to know what you want out of life instead of spinning in circles like me!

Charity 0 / MaryLu 1

2. What’s your favorite kind of tea?

MaryLu – Tea? Blaa! Coffee all the way.

Charity – 😮 Oh man! Not cool, MaryLu! Not cool!! I am a sweet tea (un-sweet tea in a pinch…or on a diet)

— No disrespecting the TEA!

Charity 1 / MaryLu 1

3. Do you ever play video games?

MaryLu – Years ago I got addicted to a game called King’s Quest. I couldn’t stop playing it! I would play it at work, at home, at night! After I won it, I vowed to never get sucked into any more video games!

Charity – Blah, Candy Crush taught me the same lesson! (Although, I SWEAR I never sent out those HORRIBLE facebook invites!!! I avoided the temptation!

4. Do you wear fun socks?

MaryLu- Love fun socks! I have pirate ones and ones with monkeys and pink elephants and tons of Christmas ones!

Charity – That was the jackpot, gold winning question!! WOW!! I don’t usually. I have a bunch, but I usually don’t wear socks unless I am wearing running shoes…and you all know how much I run…So, …. There’s that.

— Definitely MaryLu!

Charity 1 / MaryLu 2

5. Have you ever sailed on a pirate ship (a re-enacting ship, of course)?

MaryLu – Of course! Who hasn’t? I’ve sailed on several. One out of Key West that was a bit too realistic for me. (The pirates were drinking and one lady even threw up over the side of the ship!) However, there was a real wedding preformed on the ship that was pretty cool to witness. I have also sailed on a pirate ship out of San Diego where we engaged in battle with another ship, cannons blaring!! So cool!

Charity – Uh, I haven’t! That’s who!! So cool though!! I would love that.

— Got whooped twice in a row!

Charity 1 / MaryLu 3

6. How do you strive to bring God the most glory in your life?

MaryLu – I submit every area of my life to Him (or at least I strive to!) Many people think they don’t really have a gift or a ministry they can use to glorify God, but the truth is, God can use everything in our lives to bring Him glory. Our marriages, friendships, work, school, kids, etc. The Apostle Paul instructs us to submit our entire body to God, where we go, what we eat, what we watch on TV, what we do. Everything we do should be done for God’s glory. A tall order, I know. But that’s been my goal. Do I always succeed? Nope. But I’m on my way!

Charity – Absolutely love it and couldn’t agree more! I feel the same way. God can use any situation to be brought glory. If we don’t use the bad situations in life for that, then it’s just a waste of a moment. Car breaks down, bad Dr. diagnoses, stubbing my toe…doesn’t matter. God is so sovereign and amazing ❤

— God WINS!!

Charity 1 / MaryLu 3

7. What’s your favorite American landmark/tourist destination?

MaryLu – Charleston, South Carolina

Charity – Oh, man! I would so love to visit. I’m not even that far away! I live in Virginia (Historic Triangle area…Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown).

This is a difficult question! I am not sure. I think that Yorktown has a huge part of my heart. I grew up playing drums in the Yorktown Fife and Drum Corp. ❤

8. Have you ever eaten the tongue of an animal?

MaryLu – No, but I’ve bitten my tongue accidentally. Does that count? I’ve eaten alligator and snails. Can you top that?

Charity – Oh my. Nope, can’t top that!!!! ha ha. Sounds frightening!!!

— Definitely MaryLu!

Final:

Charity 1 / MaryLu 4

76245498_55f95743f4 Once again, I got crushed. I am on the ground, smooshed with someone holding my nose plugged. (???????? What’s happening here?????)

— UH OH!! MaryLu has a question for me!!!

Why A TransParent Mom?

Charity – ahh…. Yes, funny question. I have noticed people wondering about that with all of the transgender things going on. I am fully woman! No doubt there!! I am simply transparent in my life to give God the most glory possible. I went through some seriously rough years before I came to Christ and I want to use those experiences of rape, terror, pregnancy, single mom-ness, and many other things to show how God can make anything into a miracle, thus bringing Himself glory IF we let Him. 🙂

Thanks SO MUCH, MaryLu! I really enjoyed chatting with you and can’t wait to read Abandoned Memories! Like I already told you, it has been on my (kindle) shelf for MONTHS and it’s horrible because it’s just out of reach with all my other deadlines. I can FINALLY figure out the ending and what’s been going on!!! ahhhhh!!

Guess what???? MaryLu has offered to giveaway Balloons-for-Birthday-Party a copy of this AMAZING BOOK!! You DO NOT want to miss this giveaway! This is one of the most incredible series I have ever read!!!

Excited!

Many of you know that one of my favorite authors is MaryLu Tyndall. She writes the most fun “swashbuckling” tales you can find!!! Her newest book is being released in July!! I can’t wait!! Here’s a bit about it:

————————————————————————

The Reckoning – Legacy of the King’s Pirates Book 5  –  July 2015

When Morgan Shaw crept into the hold of an old pirate ship replica at San Diego’s Annual Tall Ship Festival, her only intention was to avoid the guy who had just dumped her and who was now boarding the ship with two women on his arm. What she didn’t expect was to wake up aboard a real pirate ship three-hundred years in the past. But of course, it wasn’t real. Her wealthy father had obviously staged it all in an effort to get her mind off her upcoming chemo. Or had he?

Rowan Dutton seeks enough treasure to repay a debt to his sister and reinstate the Dutton name among British Jamaican Society. He is but one major haul away from accomplishing his goal when a strange woman appears on his ship and causes him to lose his prey. Despite his anger, he is enthralled with the little minx, her strange clothing, odd speech, and her insistence that they are all actors playing a charade paid for by her father.

Yet when the brazen little lady divulges Rowan’s secret to a longtime nemesis, events are triggered that could cost them both their lives and change the course of history forever.

Two of my favorite series by her are:

Escape from Paradise Series

After the Civil War, many of the Confederate officers and southerners tried to escape to South America. Some wanted to so they could rebuild their confederacy and some were just trying to escape a court martial. They did rebuild a huge colony which is in Brazil. Every year, they still celebrate the confederacy and their part in making Brazil what it is today. Here is a picture of one of their annual celebrations: This series follows a crew that moved there and started a colony. It is so intriguing. You won’t be able to put it down! Wonderful books!!!!

She also has a wonderful series called Surrender to Destiny:

These are centered around The War of 1812. Many people forget (or don’t even know) that we still battled England after the Revolutionary War. This is such an amazing series and with each book being only $1.99, you can’t go wrong!! Pick these up and you WON’T regret it!

Hurry! Grab it while it’s hot!!

You want to talk about a GREAT deal? One of my favorite authors, MaryLu Tyndall, has got some INSANE prices going on right now.

EVERY ONE OF THESE BOOKS IS ONLY $1.99!!!!!!

Surrender the Dawn (Surrender to Destiny Book 3)  Surrender the Heart (Surrender to Destiny Book 1)  Surrender the Night (Surrender to Destiny Book 2)  Veil of Pearls Central Park Rendezvous (Romancing America)

Her latest series is also at a GREAT price. Each of these are $7.99.

Forsaken Dreams (Escape to Paradise Book 1)  Elusive Hope: Escape to Paradise (Book 2)  Abandoned Memories (Escape to Paradise Book 3)

Believe me. You will NOT be able to set these books down once you start reading. She is such a talented writer and keeps you calling your husband to pick up some fast food so you don’t have to stop reading to make dinner!!!!

Pretend I didn’t say that.

Tears of the Sea

by MaryLu Tyndall

Tears-of-the-Sea

MaryLu Tyndall offering a book to review? Oh my goodness. I am so in. Her Escape to Paradise and Surrender to Destiny series had me glued to the pages. Her study and knowledge of history is astounding. One of my favorite things is her Pinterest page. She has boards dedicated to her books and what the characters and scenery look like.

That being said, I was surprised, and very curious, when I found out that this book would be unlike any others she has previously written. MaryLu wrote this book as an allegory of the Gospel using mythical lands, characters, and a mermaid!! I was completely unsure of what to think before I started reading this story.

Perdita is well into her third century of life, cursed to be a mermaid until she can find someone that loves her enough to die in her place. Once, every ten years, she has a month to be human and find a man that is willing. Sound crazy? I AGREE! However, this book held my attention. I found it fascinating. It is truly a story about finding your worth, knowing what true love is and seeking to do right no matter the circumstances.

Thanks, MaryLu, for giving me a book that I can’t help but read well into the night! Keep them coming (:
